WHAT IS CLINUCA?

CLINUCA is the Legal Clinic of the Faculty of Law at the University of Cadiz. It provides citizens with free, basic legal counselling on any legal matters which may affect them, thereby helping to defend and promote their rights and interests.

Aimed at citizens and non-profit-making NGOs and charities, the service is staffed by Law students in the third or fourth year of the Bachelor’s Degree in Law or Double Degree in Law and Labour Relations. Participating students are supervised at all times by faculty members.

The more complex cases handled by the Clinic also constitute the basis for the End-of-Degree projects which students have to submit to complete their bachelor’s or master’s degrees and which include opinions and reports on the issues raised.

CLINUCA’s activity basically involves assisting and advising individuals and organizations regarding the queries it receives, but without providing a full-blown professional consultation service. In other words, we offer initial guidance, informing citizens about possible courses of action and what professionals they need to contact. The experience obtained in the Clinic encourages and improves students’ active learning processes and practical training. It also helps them develop skills and abilities related to the legal profession, for example by improving their teamwork and their command of legal communications.

The project constitutes a vehicle through which to exercise the social responsibility of the public university system. The service it provides to the community will undoubtedly help bring the Faculty of Law closer to society and raise students’ awareness of the key role jurists play in the correct functioning of the rule of law.

We would like to emphasise that our Legal Clinic maintains no database of personal information and will not request such information. The anonymity of the private individuals using it is therefore guaranteed. The students involved with CLINUCA must also sign a confidentiality agreement before starting work there.
